Why use mountain bike shoes? Understanding the benefits by Malcolm Robinson
Many people may question the use of specialized mountain bike shoes. Some will say that they are in fact not necessary unless you are a serious racer. To me they are an essential part of your sport setup. Yes of course you can cycle with normal shoes; the thing is that you can find your sport even more enjoyable when you use the products and technology available to you.
Now don't get me wrong, I am not talking about whether you should ride with clipless or not, I am saying that riding with specialist shoes, both clipless and normal, will enhance your riding experience. I am going to be taking a closer look at the benefits of both clipless and standard rubber soled MTB shoes.
Clipless mountain bike shoes
So obviously the clipless system of having a cleat that attaches to your pedal stems from the one sided road cleat system. What the shoe manufacturers have done in the case of MTB shoes is that they have produced a double sided clip pedal. The spd system is the most common. What this allows for is easy in and out connections between the shoe and pedal. This is of great significance when you are often having to dismount your bike as you often do in mountain cycling.
The mountain bike shoes also have a ridged sole which allows for maximum power transfer. Unlike road shoes however, mountain bike shoes have a raised sole allowing for use off the bike. Mountain bikers will often portage and the soles allow for extra grip. Some mountain bike shoes actually have place in the fore sole for studs, giving even more grip particularly in muddy situations.
Mountain bike shoes are generally made from tough materials and allow for maximum ventilation as well as protection. Comfort is paramount to any cyclist and the last thing you want to think about is your shoes or your feet. Manufactures of mountain bike shoes generally have a very extensive range of sizes available to the cyclist and this allows you to find a shoe that fits right, whether you have short, long, skinny or fat feet you will most likely find a pair that fits like a glove.
Non Clipless mountain bike shoes
Just as clipless shoes are designed specifically for cycling so you also get people who prefer not to cycle with the clipless system. Manufacturers have designed shoes now specifically for riding mountain bike without the cleat system or as hybrids. These shoes also have some inherent qualities of the standard clipless shoe; the main difference however is the sole of the shoe. The sole is made from a special rubber that allows for maximum traction on the specially designed wide sole pedal. The pedals also usually have studs that increase grip.
These style mountain bike shoes are used mostly by downhill riders and trick rider who need to connect and disconnect from their bike quickly and often.
Regardless of whether you choose to use the clipless system or not is entirely your choice. What is important however is that you consider getting properly equipped for your sport and this includes the appropriate footwear? Happy riding.

I want to buy football cleats/studs within the range of 1000rs(20$) but i don't where i shall get them?
but i don't where i shall get them ?
any brand or local brand should do
please if you know any shop in mumbai where i shall find them plase let me know
I'm not sure where in Mumbai. But maybe those sport stores that don't specialize in soccer. But if you're thinking of getting one, I'd say something within the range of $50-$70 are good for cheaper decent cleats. Anything cheaper, its not as good quality. If not, maybe you could see if there are any stores with cleats on sale like older models.
The only other option is probably online, but I have never bought anything online.
Good luck.
